Interesting. Probably done in the spring of 1939. Only months from the start of WW2. I noticed how carefully this travel log has been tightly controlled. Every flagpole has had the Nazi flag removed. There is not a single banner or propaganda poster visible anywhere. Nor anyone in uniform. You could be easily lulled into thinking you are traveling in an idealized Germany of some bygone era.

Deutschland hat auch heute noch schöne Gegenden und Ortschaften. Man muss sie nur entdecken.

Kulturlandschaft durch und durch: landschaftliches Kunstwerk'. Was für ein tragischer Verlust durch den Krieg und den achtlosen Verschleiß sowie bewusster Zerstörung heutzutage. In Franzensbad: Als man noch richtig lustwandelte. Goethes Spruch 'Man reist ja nicht, um anzukommen, sondern um zu reisen.' hat sich völlig umgekehrt, man kommt aber mit der Bahn noch später an als damals Goethe.

Könnten genau so gut die 50ger Jahre sein. Währe es nicht zum Krieg gekommen und zu einer funktionierenden Demokratie kann man sich die weitere Entwicklung ungefähr vorstellen.

German is easy to learn for an English and French speaking person.The verb is usually at the end of the sentence.

..clever bit where the man carries fuel can and can't get a ride to next station, then does get one, but hides behind the VW seat to avoid being seen by those in the car ahead, stopped at that station.. He explains to the driver and his passenger in VW, what his game is; hitching rides with all his clothes hidden (here 53:43) inside a dummy fuel can.. And they all laugh and sing a song together as they pass the fuel station and other driver, on by.. (No language captions, so I had to try and guess which words meant what. I'm way out of practice here.) I've forgotten what little German learned in high school, @ 17 y/o and hadn't heard any Deutsch since then, in my 67+ years!🙂
